An intimate group of 15 neighbors came out to share their thoughts about Elkridge and Howard County at the Elkridge home of Tina & Jim Hyatt. Delegate Jimmy Malone, who represents Elkridge in Annapolis, was there to kick things off and show his support for my candidacy. Delegate Malone asked everyone to vote for Jon to “… keep the momentum going in Elkridge, building upon the progress made on the new schools, Troy Hill Park, library, and fire station.” He added, “Jon has the passion and commitment to help the residents of Elkridge and he’ll make a great Councilman.”
The group discussed a wide array of topics with an emphasis on public safety, roads, education, and development. One of the many ideas raised (thank you, Drew) that I look forward to pursuing is joining forces with the HoCo Delegation to Annapolis (as well as elected officials I know from other jurisdictions) is to petition the state to revise its criteria for building schools in the county, specifically to have the state change from a county-wide measurement of the student population to one that is aligned with the growth tiers. This is a fine point that, if adjusted by the state, may just enable the County to pursue a 13th high school in Elkridge sooner.
Thank you to the Hyatts for opening their doors to their neighbors to facilitate the great exchanges that took place throughout the evening.
