An Open Letter from Margaret Weinstein

Jon & MargaretDear Friends,

I’m excited to reach out to you to share a bit about my husband, Jon, Howard County Councilman representing District 1 and my partner in life since our first date in high school nearly 30 years ago. Over these years I have seen the passion and commitment he has approached every aspect of life – as a student leader, Army Reserve officer, father, community leader, and business owner.

Our family – Jon strives to be a model for our two sons by sharing his love of service and challenging them to make a difference. For years he coached youth sports, volunteered at track meets and awards banquets, and brought prominent members of the community to speak to students in our schools. As our sons have grown, Jon continued to spend time with Howard County’s students as a regular volunteer “Judge” for the 5th grade Simulated Congressional Hearings. Jon’s school involvement is one reason the County’s teachers endorsed him when he was running for the Council.

Our business – Together Jon and I own, Line of Sight, a consulting firm Jon founded in 2005 that is focused on improving the performance of government organizations – federal, state, and local. He is a recognized expert in the project management and organizational change fields, and has authored two books. In recognition of his commitment to the community, Jon was nominated and selected to participate in Leadership Howard County, a program for leaders in business, education, government, non-profit, and faith-based organizations, to discuss the County’s challenges and identify opportunities for improvement. Since I joined the firm as CEO, I have seen first-hand the passion he has for helping our clients and staff achieve success. He knows how to make government work better and, as an expert facilitator and consensus-builder, will bring these unique skills and experiences to engage the community in making Howard County even better for its citizens and businesses.

Our community – After his Army service Jon focused his attention on local community organizations. For over 30 years he has volunteered with the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership, including as the Maryland State Director, an organization that motivates high school sophomores to be leaders in their communities. Recently he has dedicated his energy toward establishing the Ellicott City Partnership – combining his love of history with his commitment to making the historic district a vibrant part of our County’s success. As a young teen, Jon survived a sexual assault that took years for him to speak about. He turned this experience into action through by supporting HopeWorks, our county’s domestic violence center. In April, Jon testified to the County Council supporting increased funding for the Police to staff their domestic violence and human trafficking unit. He will continue to focus on this critical issue as a Council member. Jon’s commitment to public safety earned him our County’s Police and Firefighters’ endorsements during the campaign.

I believe that like me, you want what’s best for our community. I am confident that when you look at his qualifications you will see what I do… Jon has the integrity, experience, commitment, and vision to be an excellent representative for the citizens of Council District 1 and for the future of Howard County. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Jon. Please reach out to him at

Warm Regards,

Margaret Weinstein
